Read the phone companys fine print.
One has to read the fine print when ever one signs up to anything. It is some thing one just must do.
But the amount of people that just sign up willy nilly to things is unreal.
Take this case we read about this lady who had her moblie phone stolen before embarking for a vacation trip. Did not report the phone stolen and found a $450 USD in download charges on return. The jerk downloaded movies like "Pillow Fight Girls 3" and "Miami Nights: Singles in Heat." She told the phone company what happened, but they said they knocked the charge back to $300 USD, but would not wipe it out. The reason? Customers apparently do this intentionally, to get out of massive vacation-generated phone bills. She had to pay.
Which i guess is fair enough, as she did not tell the phone comapny straight away.
But the poor bugger who was hit with a $26,000 USD phone bill is another story. Same thing a lady gets here mobile stolen, as she is leaving on holiday, in the airport. Comes home a week later to find crazy amount charged to here phone account. And told by the phone company she has to pay. The company rep went as far to suggest she file for bankruptcy.
Some phone companies tuck a little note in the fine print that tells people they are liable for calls made before the phone is reported as lost or stolen.
Which is fair enough, but a $26,000 USD phone bill is a little over the top.
But this chick would not pay, and went to a TV station and told her story, and proved she was out of country when it happened. So the phone company droped the bill and led to dropping the charges.
The lesson for everyone else should be clear.
If you lose your mobile phone, do whatever it takes to contact the wireless provider immediately.
