Throwing rocks from an overpass onto a highway, and not just a pebble, fucking rock as big as brick from overpass onto passing traffic. Fucking lunatic.
A MAN who threw a rock from a freeway overpass severely injuring a young woman in a passing car has been sentenced to four years in jail.
Peter Lachlan Hodgkins, 25, had pleaded guilty to maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on 22 year old Nicole Miller by throwing rocks from an overpass above the Princes Highway on the New South Wales south coast on July 22 last year.
Ms Miller was hit in the head by a rock the size of a brick while sitting in the rear of a car.
In the Wollongong District Court today, Hodgkins was sentenced to a maximum jail term of four years, with a non parole period of two years.
He also is serving 12 months for aggravated breaking, entering and stealing, which will expire on March 5, 2009.
Judge Paul Conlon said he wanted to send a clear message to the community that the courts would deal harshly with anyone who committed a similar offence.
"Any person that throws any object at a vehicle of any description and seriously injures a person therein should expect the receive a custodial sentence," Judge Conlon said.
