Recently, a new format has popped up that, in a year or so, might make the Blu-Ray look like the Betamax.

Toshiba conceded the HD video disc battle this week and announced its HD-DVD formatted products were no longer going to be manufactured. It had little choice after a string of defeats, started by Warner choosing to go with Blu-Ray exclusively and concluding when the US's biggest retailer, Wal Mart, backed out of the HD DVD format.

So, Blu-Ray is the winner, right?

Not so fast.

Downloadable movies are the new IT THING.

Mmmmm. Interesting.

Huh? I don’t see the point or the argument here? I mean for the past several years millions of people, including myself, have been downloading music, TV shows, and films via the web FOR FREE – so attempting to make it all official by offering better quality isn’t going to change a single thing – or make me drop everything and rush out to order with them. I mean, even before these corporations finally decide to pull out their finger and attempt to kick start an entire new industry and gimmick, 90% of the planet is and will be burning and swapping HD/blue-ray content by the bucket load anyway.

FYI: I’ll be getting my hands on a blu-ray burner in a few weeks – so the real question is, why the fuck would I (we) pay for a service I already get absolutely free?

The point is these huge conglomerates are only now starting to see the big picture (and reach) and are just pissed off cause they’ve missed the boat – completely. Not only that, but the majority of them still haven’t figured out that the true power behind the web lies in advertising – not the package, so to speak – so they’re already destined to fail even before they start. They still think its 1981 or some shit!

Meanwhile, I can see in the future all that old media stuff being pretty much free (software, music, films, etc) with smart corporations making a living off the advertising instead. You know that old adage – sell the sizzle not the steak. Truth is the internet is a marketer’s [global] wet dream!!! As for trying to reinvent the wheel (the old school crowd – who are trying to tame it, or don’t’ understand, or don’t want to face reality) it’ll fail just like it did with the music biz.

Maybe if these old farts stopped trying to fight it, and actually embraced the medium there wouldn’t be a problem – and could actually contribute and improve it some way – but in the end, they’re all fucking greedy, and are just upset cause they didn’t get their share...

;)
Smart surfers who want free porn (or free stuff on DVD) and think they how to get it, could, will simply enjoy the free meal and leave the donation plate empty. Either way these puckers will not pay...

Pull your head in, some of us have a life. If you must know we went to a friends place for dinner and a movie. Local fish was on the menu, spicy but with bones, chips and salad. Watched the Bourne Ultimatum, #3 are told in the series. While drinking large amounts of alcohol. So it could go with out saying one is not feeling the best to today, might have over done the alcohol bit, we think, lol. :)
